Sri Lanka is famous spot for gemstones due large quantity and variety of gems. During ancient times the island was referred to as “The Island of Gemstones”. From ancient times to today, Sri Lanka plays a significant role in gem industry. There are about 200 minerals have been classified as gemstones by its beauty, rarity and durability. Among those hundreds of gems, about 75 mineral stones have been found in Sri Lanka.
